Indian-American healthcare doctor in Chicago found guilty, faces 10 years in prison

A 51-year-old Indian American doctor in the US Chicago area has pleaded guilty to federal health care fraud by billing Medicaid and private insurance companies for non-existent services. Mona Ghosh is the owner and operator of Progressive Women’s Healthcare and specializes in gynecological services. He pleaded guilty to two counts of health care fraud.

Each count carries a sentence of up to ten years in federal prison. US District Judge Franklin U. Valderrama has set October 22 for sentencing. Federal prosecutors allege that Ghosh is responsible for at least $2.4 million in fraudulent claims.

She admitted in her plea that she was responsible for more than $1.5 million in fraudulent claims. The final amount will be determined by the court at the time of sentencing, the press release said.

According to court documents, from 2018 to 2022, Ghosh submitted fraudulent claims to Medicaid, TRICARE and several other insurance companies for procedures and services that were not provided or were not medically necessary, including: some without patient consent; were done.

Ghosh’s plea agreement states that he fraudulently exaggerated the length and complexity of office and telemedicine visits and submitted claims using billing codes that did not require a visit to receive the claims.

She has admitted that she used to create fake patient medical records so that she could fraudulently claim them.
