Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s bat caught fire at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. He scored a storming century in the second ODI against South Africa. Harampreet faced 88 balls and scored 103 not out. He hit 9 fours and three sixes in his innings. He created a stir along with vice-captain Smriti Mandhana (136). The duo put on a strong partnership of 171 runs for the third wicket.

Scored a century after 21 months

Harmanpreet’s century drought is over after 21 months. He previously scored an international century against England in September 2022. Harmanpreet has scored the sixth century of his ODI career. She is third in the list of Indian women cricketers who have scored the most ODI centuries. They are preceded by opening batsman Mandhana and former veteran Mithali Raj, who scored seven centuries each.

Did this for the second time with Mandhana

Harmanpreet shared a 170 plus run partnership with Mandhana for the second time. The duo shared a 184-run stand for the fourth wicket against West Indies in March 2022. Harmanpreet and Mandhana shared the third highest partnership for the third wicket for the Indian women’s team in ODIs. Harmanpreet (3523) has completed three and a half thousand runs in ODIs. She has become the second highest ODI run scorer behind Mandhana (3495).

Talking about the match, in the second ODI, South Africa won the toss and put India into bat. India scored 325 runs for three wickets on the back of century innings by Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur. Shefali Verma (20) lost his wicket in the 12th over and Dayalan Hemalta (24) in the 23rd over. After this Mandhana and Harmanpreet took charge brilliantly. Mandhana returned to the pavilion in the 46th over. Harmanpreet completed his century by hitting two fours and a six in the 50th over. Richa Ghosh was unbeaten on 25 runs.
