The number of toppers in the medical entrance examination National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) has dropped from 67 to 61, according to the revised results released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday. In the examination held on May 5, the NTA awarded grace marks to 1,563 candidates to compensate for the time loss caused by the delayed commencement of the examination at six centres. Re-examination was conducted only for these candidates. According to a news published in TOI, 60% of the 813 NEET candidates secured higher marks (original marks) in the re-examination, but could not touch their grace marks score. No candidate scored 720 out of 720 marks. Out of 6 toppers, 5 candidates appeared for NEET re-examination. But even he could not get full 720 marks.

Re-examination was conducted at 7 centres

Out of 1,563 candidates, 48 ​​per cent of the examinees did not appear in the re-examination held at 7 centers on June 23. Out of 1,563 candidates, 813 candidates appeared for the re-examination. While others chose to leave grace marks. At Chandigarh center only two candidates were scheduled to take the exam, not a single candidate appeared there. Jhajjar district of Haryana had 58 per cent attendance at the centre, which came under scrutiny, where 287 out of 494 candidates appeared for the re-examination.

“At least 52 per cent – 813 out of 1,563 candidates – appeared for the re-examination,” an NTA official said earlier. No candidate appeared in Chandigarh, while 291 candidates appeared from Chhattisgarh, one from Gujarat, 287 from Haryana and 234 from Meghalaya.

The NEET-UG was conducted on May 5 at 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 foreign cities. Around 24 lakh candidates appeared for the exam. Attitude of Ministry of Education

The ministry constituted a four-member expert committee headed by the former chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to review the grace marks given to the students. Apart from this, National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Subodh Singh has been removed from his post. The NTA gave students with grace marks the option to retake the exam or waive the grace marks. The re-examination was conducted on June 23 and the result was declared on June 30.

CBI is investigating

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the alleged malpractice in the conduct of the examination. CBI has registered six FIRs in this case. The FIRs filed in Bihar related to question paper leakage, while the FIRs registered in Gujarat and Rajasthan related to cheating and cheating in the examination by someone other than the candidates.
