Sri Lanka and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana has praised the great wicketkeeper batsman MS Dhoni. He has called former CSK captain Dhoni as his father. Pathirana is part of CSK from 2022 onwards. 21-year-old Pathirana is called ‘Baby Malinga’ as his action is similar to that of former fast bowler Lasith Malinga. Dhoni recognized Pathirana’s talent after watching the viral video and decided to include him in CSK. Pathirana made his international debut in June 2023. He has played 12 ODIs and 12 T20Is for Sri Lanka.
According to CSK’s website, Pathirana said, “After my father, he has been playing the role of my father for most of my cricketing life. He always looks after me and advises me what to do. When I am at home, my father is something. I think that’s enough.’ On Dhoni’s guidance, Pathirana said, “When I’m on the field or off the field, he tells me little things but it makes a big difference and gives me a lot of confidence.” .”
Pathirana has already praised Dhoni before. He said in an interview, “I have learned a lot from Dhoni. The first thing is humility and that is why he (Dhoni) is so successful. When I went there (IPL) I was young and nobody knew me. He trained me and taught me many things. Now, I know how to perform in any T20 match and how to balance my four overs in a match. Dhoni told me that if I keep my body away from injuries, I can achieve a lot for the team and the country.
