England white ball captain Jos Buttler will miss the third and possibly fourth T20 international against Pakistan in Cardiff on Tuesday due to paternity leave. On Saturday, 25 May, he returned home to London after leading the England team in the series with a 23-run win against Pakistan in the second T20 International. Butler and his wife are expecting a baby soon.
According to ESPNcricinfo, he did not attend England’s afternoon training session in Cardiff ahead of the third T20 match on Monday. He is likely to miss the third T20 match, while it remains to be seen whether he will be available for the series finale at The Oval on Thursday, May 30. Butler had previously indicated that he would be present with his wife at the birth of their child.

Buttler’s decision has raised concerns about his availability for the T20 World Cup group stage matches. If he becomes a father soon, he may go to West Indies and USA. England will have to defend their T20 World Cup from June 4, when the team plays its first league match against Scotland at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. After this they will play group stage matches against Australia, Oman and Namibia in Barbados and Antigua.
England vice-captain Moeen Ali said of the captaincy change: “If it happens, it’s a great honor – as it always is. I’m fine.
