Maiduguri. At least 42 women have been attacked and kidnapped by fundamentalists in Nigeria’s Borno state. Local people gave this information to journalists.

According to the Civil Joint Task Force ‘ABA’, the women were collecting firewood in Borno’s Jere district. That is why fundamentalists attacked him. Locals said the women were from Mafa district who lived in refugee camps and earned their livelihood by selling firewood. District official spokesperson Kachla Maidugu confirmed the incident. The incident took place on Tuesday but was reported late on Wednesday night.

Maidugu said we received information yesterday that 46 women were abducted, but only 4 of these women were allowed to go home, the remaining 42 are still in their custody.

The extremists demanded a ransom of 50,000 naira ($55 or about Rs. 45,000) for each woman, the spokesman said. Local people are talking about paying less money for the liberation of women.

According to local security group ‘Aba’, the militants first attacked security forces guarding farmers in the area and carried out the incident hours later.
