Ladakh: Army tank breaks down while crossing river, 1 jawan martyred, 4 missing

A tank has met with an accident while crossing a river in Ladakh. One army jawan has been martyred in this accident and 4 are missing. The tank that crashed is said to be a T-72. Official sources said the tank was on a training mission when the accident occurred while crossing a river. The incident took place during an exercise near Mandir Mor, 148 km from Leh, around 1 am.

The tragedy occurred in the Ladakh region when the water level in the river suddenly rose through which the tanks were passing. Official sources from Leh city in Ladakh region told IANS that a tank battle practice was underway in the Daulat Beg Ode area near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on Friday.

During this war exercise, the water stream which was being crossed by the tanks suddenly overflowed due to a cloudburst in the highlands. Sources said, “A tank got caught in the flash flood, killing one soldier. Four soldiers are missing.” Sources said that a junior commissioned officer was also among the soldiers killed in the accident.
