White Medical College, Punjab has not produced a single medical graduate in the last 13 years. This medical college located in Pathankot was established in the year 2021. Earlier it was known as Chintapurni Medical College. There are 150 MBBS seats here but not a single batch has passed in 13 years due to poor infrastructure and lack of faculty. Earlier this year, following the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the National Medical Commission (NMC) asked all students of this college to shift to other colleges. Let us tell you that NMC itself monitors the quality of medical education in the country. It is one of the two medical colleges in the country which was ordered by the court to shift the entire MBBS batch to other medical colleges for not meeting the norms. Another college is GR Medical College of Karnataka. Chitpurni College has challenged the court order, while GR Medical College has transferred all the students to other medical colleges.
According to Indian Express news, Chitpurni College has made such mistakes before. In the year 2017 also, three batches of students (who had taken admission in 2011, 2014 and 2016) approached the court and sought their transfer to other medical colleges.
In August last year, the NMC had stopped 9 medical colleges from taking admissions. These colleges have not fulfilled the conditions and norms set by the NMC. Their faculty presence on the NMC portal was low. Apart from Chintapurni and Medical College of Karnataka, other medical colleges made up their deficiencies and allowed them to take admission. But Chintapurni and Karnataka Medical College failed to do so. According to an Indian Express report, the NMC has already stopped Chitpurni College from taking fresh admissions. Since its establishment in 2011, the college has so far received permission to start only five new batches. Given the exit of three batches in 2017 in 2011, 2014, 2016, 2021 and 2022 and the ban on new admissions, only two batches (those who entered in 2021 and 2022) are currently in the campus. These students have also demanded transfer from the college in court.

Last year, on the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the NMC constituted a committee on the Chitpurni Medical College issue. The committee comprises members of NMC, representatives of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (with which the college is affiliated) and Department of Medical Education, Punjab. After discussion, this committee proposed to close the medical college.
During the NMC inspection at Chintapurni Medical College, investigators found that only 12.6 percent of the hospital’s beds were occupied by patients, while the rest were empty. While as per NMC norms, at least 60 percent of the beds are required to be occupied by patients at all times.
