Netherlands batsman Sybrand Engelbrecht has announced his retirement from international cricket. The Netherlands team’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 ended on 16 June with a loss to Sri Lanka in the group stage. Engelbrecht retired from all forms of cricket in 2016 and moved to the Netherlands in 2021. However, after playing good cricket there, the South Africa-born cricketer was selected for the national team in 2023.

In the last group match of T20 World Cup 2024, Netherlands lost to Sri Lanka by 83 runs. A video of Engelbrecht during the match against Sri Lanka on Monday is going viral on social media, in which he stopped the ball from hitting a six by jumping in the air towards Superman. Everyone is praising his fielding. However, this was his last match. Chasing a target of 202 runs, he played an innings of 11 runs off 9 balls.
