Monsoon arrival in the country! Heavy rain warning in many states; Know what is IMD alert

Heavy rains lashed several parts of the country, including Gujarat and Rajasthan, on Sunday, affecting normal life. Southwest Monsoon is moving towards the northern states of the country. Several deaths have been reported across the country due to rain-related incidents such as lightning and drowning. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh are among the states that received heavy rainfall on Sunday. Also, the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in many states for the next four-five days.

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh till July 02, Uttarakhand till July 04, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and various places of Uttar Pradesh till July 01 and 02 till July 3.

Along with this, heavy rain is likely at isolated places over East Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on July 01 and July 03 till 4. The Meteorological Department predicts that Bihar may experience heavy rains till July 2.

The IMD said rains are lashing Gujarat due to a cyclonic circulation in the north-east Arabian Sea adjacent to Saurashtra region. Officials said heavy rains inundated many areas in Surat, Bhuj, Vapi, Bharuch and Ahmedabad cities and affected traffic due to waterlogging in low-lying areas, making some roads and underpasses impassable. Palsana taluk of Surat district recorded 153 mm of rain in ten hours which is the highest in the state.

According to the Meteorological Department, rainy weather will continue in Gujarat for the next four days. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected at isolated places over south and central Gujarat and Saurashtra region on Monday, the IMD said in a release.

Amid heavy rains forecast in Delhi till Tuesday, municipal bodies have stepped up preparations to deal with the waterlogging problem, with steps taken to keep regional units on alert, including increased deployment of staff and equipment.

On Friday morning, the first day of monsoon arrival in the national capital, 228.10 mm of rain fell, the highest in June since 1936. Many areas of the city were flooded due to rain and many people lost their lives.

Heavy to very heavy rains in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur division

Heavy rains lashed many parts of Rajasthan on Sunday. Churu recorded a maximum rainfall of 51.4 mm, while the temperature in the city was 40.2 degrees Celsius. In the last 24 hours, some parts of Bharatpur division received heavy to very heavy rainfall. Here, 12 cm of rain was recorded in Bari of Dholpur and 11 cm in Baseri during 24 hours. While in Bharatpur district, 10 cm of rain was recorded in Nagar, 9 cm in Kumher and 8 cm in Dig.

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in some parts of East Rajasthan and light to moderate rain in some parts of West Rajasthan in the next four-five days. The maximum temperature in the state was recorded at Sriganganagar at 41.3 degrees.

Two people have died due to lightning in Deoria

Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district, police said two people, including a priest, were killed, while seven others were injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes on Sunday.

According to the police, the incident took place around 1 pm when it was raining heavily in the area. Several people, including temple priest Radheshyam Giri (50), were taking shelter in the temple located in Gopalpur village when the lightning struck.

In another incident, Rajnath Kushwaha (40) was struck by lightning while sowing paddy in his field. He died on the spot.

2 dead, 3 missing in Lonavala area

Meanwhile, a woman and a 13-year-old girl drowned in a waterfall near Bhushi Dam in Pune’s Lonavala area in Maharashtra on Sunday, while three children aged 4-6 are missing.

A police official said the incident took place at 1.30 pm after which search and rescue teams reached the spot.

“They appear to be members of the same family and slipped into a waterfall about two kilometers from Bhushi Dam and drowned in the reservoir below,” said a police officer.

The Kishtwar-Paddar road has been blocked due to landslides

Landslides blocked the Kishtwar-Paddar road in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, while light to moderate rains lashed various places in Jammu division, providing some relief from the heat.

In Kishtwar district on Sunday afternoon, rain caused a landslide on a road near Patharanki, forcing vehicular movement to stop.

Most parts of Jammu province remained cloudy throughout the day with light to moderate rain at various places, especially in the hill districts of Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur and Ramban. Summer capital Jammu also received light rain in the morning.

The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at several places in Jammu division during late night or morning till July 3. After this, intermittent light to moderate rains at most places and heavy rains at few places are expected from July 4 to 7.

The Meteorological Department has also issued warnings of flash floods, landslides and rock falls. Several roads were submerged in water in Uttar Pradesh’s Haldwani, Ramnagar, Dehradun, Uttarakhand’s Haridwar, Moradabad, Patna and Hyderabad following heavy rains.

Heavy to very heavy rains lashed many places in Bihar on Sunday. Rainwater has entered the hospital in Bihar’s Jehanabad. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at various places in Bihar till July 2.

Favorable conditions for monsoon to advance

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rains over northwest and northeast India over the next four to five days on Saturday. It also said that the Southwest Monsoon has advanced over the remaining parts of East Uttar Pradesh and some areas of West Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

According to the Meteorological Department, conditions are favorable for the advance of monsoon over West Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, most parts of Punjab and rest of West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu in the next two-three days.
