Neeraj Chopra pulls out of Ostrava Golden Spike event with injury: Neeraj Chopra will not be able to participate in the 63rd Ostrava Golden Spike 2024 athletics meet due to an injury sustained during training two weeks ago. The event is going to be held in Czechia on 28th May (Tuesday). “Due to an injury suffered during training two weeks ago, he will not be able to throw in Ostrava,” the organizers said in a statement. However, Neeraj Chopra is expected to stay in Europe as he will be in Turku, Finland on June 18 to participate in the Pavo Nurmi Games. Last year too, Neeraj withdrew from the event due to a muscle injury.

Neeraj is being replaced by European champion Julen Weber of Germany, who last week threw 88.37m, the third best performance of the year. Akum Wadlech won the 2023 Golden Spike Men’s Javelin Throw title with a modest effort of 81.93m. Neeraj started his season in the Doha Diamond League last week. where he finished second with his final throw of 88.36m, currently the ninth best mark of his career.



Earlier this month, Neeraj also participated in the National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championship in Bhubaneswar, where he won the gold medal with a throw of 82.27 metres. Neeraj was participating in an event in India for the first time after becoming the Olympic champion three years ago. Neeraj last competed in the Federation Cup in India in March 2021, where he won the gold medal with a throw of 87.80 metres.
