NEET: 44 students NEET topper by one mistake, rank-1 even on wrong answer

This time there was a flood of toppers due to a mistake in answering a question in the NEET exam. Not one, not two, not three, total 67 toppers. This has happened for the first time in the history of NEET exam. Never before have so many students scored 720 out of 720 marks. But the surprising thing here is that 44 out of 67 students have become toppers because of a mistake in answering one question. These students answered a question related to atom in physics subject wrong but still got grace marks for it. The reason is that the wrong answer was given by these students in the old NCERT science book of class 12th.

When asked about the record number of students securing 720 marks, a senior NTA official said that the exam had a question which had two correct answers as per the changes in the NCERT book. Therefore, two options were declared correct and the marks of 44 candidates increased from 715 to 720.

Since 2019, NEET has never had more than three toppers. In the year 2019 and 2020, one was the topper in NEET. There were three toppers in 2021, one in 2022 and two in 2023. But this multiple-choice physics question led to a flood of high-scoring students.

NEET: No one can score 718 and 719 marks in NEET, NTA responds to allegations

NTA said there were 67 toppers due to comparatively easy paper, high enrollment, two correct answers and one question with grace marks. The result of this exam was declared on Tuesday and 67 students secured All India Rank One. After this announcement, questions were raised on the record numbers of 718 and 719 marks obtained. Allegations of malpractices in exams, result cut-offs and impact on admissions created a frenzy on social media.

The issue also arose that out of a total possible score of 720, the second highest score that could be achieved is 716, but students scored 718 and 719 marks. NTA said this happened because of Grace Markus. Candidates who reported missing time during NEET UG 2024 have been given grace marks. This was done under the orders of the Supreme Court.

No paper leaks
The NTA refuted the paper leak claims and said that the background of the NEET UG 2024 toppers has also been checked. He has been a high scorer in class 10 and 12.
