NEET: Ahead of the NEET Result Scrutiny Committee’s report, the NTA released FAQs, answering 37 questions including paper leaks.

NEET: Ahead of the report of the committee formed to examine the medical entrance exam NEET results, the National Testing Agency NTA has issued a detailed FAQ. NTA has once again denied the paper leak and answered 37 questions. In a query regarding NEET paper leak in Godhra and Bihar, NTA has said that there is no evidence of paper leak in any report. All the cases here are related to cheating or someone else taking the exam instead of the genuine candidate. These cases are under investigation and results are awaited. The NTA said it has its own security protocols and SOPs and it has been found that no paper was leaked. In the FAQ, NTA said that it had recently given some documents to the Patna Police. He is fully cooperating with the investigating agencies in the investigation. The NTA has also said that the same tie breaking criteria adopted in 2023 has been adopted in 2024 as well.

It may be noted that protests have been going on across the country following allegations of alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the NEET results. Petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court and various state courts seeking to cancel the NEET exam, re-conduct it and re-declare the results.

What happened at Sawai Madhopur exam center?
NTA said – There was an incident of wrong distribution of question paper in Girls Higher Secondary Model School located in Mantown, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan. It was found that the Central Superintendent mistakenly distributed question papers to Hindi medium candidates appearing in English medium examination and Hindi medium question papers to English medium candidates. Due to this, some candidates created a ruckus and despite the efforts of the center staff to stop them, they walked out of the examination center with the question papers. It was also learned that the copies of this question paper were circulated on social media at 4.25 pm, giving the impression that the question paper was leaked before the exam began. Despite some students extracting the question paper and making it viral on the internet, no outsider could reach the center after the examination started. Besides this, all the centers were under CCTV surveillance. The examination of the affected candidates of the above center located in Sawai Madhopur was conducted on the same day i.e. 05 May 2024 with the correct medium question paper so that their future is not ruined.

Why grace marks were given?
NTA said- Several petitions were filed by NEET UG 2024 candidates before the High Court due to the wastage of their time during the examination at some centres. Subsequently, a Grievance Redressal Committee was formed, which considered the complaints based on factual reports and CCTV footage from the officials of the examination centers concerned. To compensate for the wastage of time, these students were given grace marks.

Grace marks were awarded on the basis of marks, what was its formula?
NTA said- it found out how much time those students wasted and given grace marks based on their ability to answer. He was given grace marks based on the formula laid down by the Supreme Court in its decision on 13 June 2018. A total of 1563 candidates were given grace marks due to loss of time.

– How can a candidate get 718 and 719 marks?
NTA said – Two candidates got 718 and 719 marks due to grace marks.

Were there any candidates other than 1563 who got grace marks?
– No, those 1563 candidates were given grace marks to compensate their loss of time.

Due to two correct answers to the Physics question, the total score of 44 candidates was 720 out of 720. Did he get grace marks too?
No, as stated earlier, Grace Points were only awarded as compensation to make up for lost time.

Can you give details about the distribution of top 100 NEET candidates in terms of exam centers and school boards?
The top 100 candidates have been distributed across 89 different centers located in 55 cities across 17 states/UTs of the country. Of these top candidates, 73 are from CBSE boards, while the remaining 27 are from various state boards. This diverse distribution reflects the broad participation and competitive spirit among students from different fields and academic backgrounds.

How does NTA ensure the authenticity of such high scores?
– NTA took several steps to maintain the sanctity of the examination. This includes biometric verification, CCTV surveillance and strict monitoring during the examination. After the examination, the NTA thoroughly examined the CCTV footage. It also checked how the NEET topper scorers performed in their studies.

What to say on a torn OMR sheet
With reference to the viral video of a NEET UG candidate claiming irregularities in the scoring of NEET UG 2024 and receiving torn OMR answer sheets in the mail from NTO, he said
No torn OMR answer sheet was sent from official ID of NTA. OMR answer sheet is correct and score is accurate as per official record.
