NEET: No one can score 718 and 719 marks in NEET, NTA responds to allegations

NEET UG 2024 Results: After 67 candidates topped NEET and scored 720 out of 720 marks, the demand to cancel the NEET exam has gained momentum on social media. Many students claimed irregularities, doubts and paper leaks in the re-examination. #Neet_paper_Cancel_Karo tweeted loudly on social media with the hashtag #Neet_paper_Cancel_Karo. Several students, exam experts and coaching operators said that many students scored 719 and 718 marks in the NEET exam, which is impossible, strengthening the suspicion of malpractice in the exam. These students argued that the NEET paper is of 720 marks. Each question carries four marks and negative marking of one mark for wrong answer. If a student corrects all the questions then he gets 720 marks out of total 720 and if he skips one question then he gets 716 marks. If he gets one question wrong, he will be left with 715 marks. In such condition it is impossible to get 718 and 719 marks. Student Visakha Suman got 719 and student Yash Kataria got 718 marks. Both these names are in the NTA list.

The National Testing Agency has also issued a clarification in this regard. The NTA has said that many students’ time was wasted during the examination held on May 5. The students complained to the NTA about the loss of time. Grace marks were awarded to candidates as compensation in view of student complaints and related court cases. During this period, a normalization formula was implemented for some candidates which was designed to deal with the time loss situation after the Supreme Court decision on June 13, 2018. His marks came to 718 or 719 due to giving grace marks.

There are also claims regarding NEET UG exam that there are many toppers from the same exam center. It is claimed that in the list of top 100 students of the exam, there are 8 students who had only one center. Out of them 6 students have got rank 1. Remaining two students secured 68th and 69th rank. A screenshot shared on social media platform X shows that all the students with serial numbers 62 to 69 belong to the same centre.
