Barbados The ICC T20 World Cup often sees big teams pull off upsets against smaller teams. No one should be surprised if something like this is seen in this tournament as well. Australia’s legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist has advised everyone to be cautious about both teams. He believes that Nepal and Netherlands can produce surprising results against teams like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup.
Nepal and Netherlands have been placed in Group D along with Bangladesh, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Gilchrist believes that the Nepali team has become much stronger due to playing at the international level. “I think Nepal is a team that can do well,” Gilchrist told SEN Radio on Saturday. It has some players who have been playing consistently in the big leagues for the past few years.
However, Nepal has suffered a major blow ahead of the World Cup as its leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichha has been ruled out of the tournament due to non-availability of a US visa. The Netherlands created a stir by defeating South Africa in the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022 and Gilchrist believes that they will not be easy to beat.
He said, “The Netherlands always present a challenge and they are again in the same group as South Africa.” In the last World Cup, they defeated South Africa in the match played in Adelaide and this time too they can cause an upset.
