New Delhi. The Indian cricket team gave a memorable farewell to its head coach Rahul Dravid after winning the ICC T20 World Cup. Dravid’s contract with Team India was only till the final of this tournament. A decision is yet to be taken on who will take over as India’s coach after this. Meanwhile BCCI Secretary Jai Shah said that Team India will play with a new coach in the Sri Lanka series.

The decision on the new coach of the Indian cricket team will be taken by the end of July. Jai Shah told PTI that BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee had conducted an interview for India’s new coach. Two candidates have been shortlisted by this committee for the responsibility of head coach, one of which will be finalized soon. He said that the Indian team will get its new coach before the Sri Lanka series.

The name of former opener Gautam Gambhir is coming up for the responsibility of the new coach of the Indian team. He is said to be the frontrunner in the race for the post. However, the Cricket Advisory Committee has also shortlisted the name of former Indian women’s cricket team coach WV Raman.

India’s next series schedule
Team India is scheduled to play 5 T20 series in Zimbabwe from July 6 to 14. For this the team has been announced and the captaincy has been handed over to Shubman Gill. The Indian team is scheduled to play a T20 series with Zimbabwe after the ICC T20 World Cup. National Cricket Academy head VVS Laxman will be sent as a coach on this tour. After this, the Indian team has to play 3 ODIs and T20 series of the same number of matches in Sri Lanka. These matches will be played between 27th July to 7th August.
