New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, where Rajesh Khanna had a rivalry with his friend

New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency of Delhi is a seat represented by major politicians. It includes leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Sucheta Kripalani and KC Pant. Apart from this, Rajesh Khanna, the first superstar of Hindi films, has also represented this meeting. For this election, Rajesh Khanna had also made enmity with his special friend Shatrughan Sinha.

Why did LK Advani leave the seat of New Delhi?

Lal Krishna Advani, one of the founders of BJP, contested in 1991 from two seats namely Gandhinagar in Gujarat and New Delhi in Delhi. He resigned from the New Delhi seat and kept the Gandhinagar seat for himself. After this, in 1992, a by-election was held on this seat.

Congress fielded film star Rajesh Khanna in this by-election. While BJP gave ticket to Shatrughan Sinha, known as Shotgun.

On May 20, 1991, voting was held for the by-election. Congress leader and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi cast his vote with his wife Sonia Gandhi at Nirman Bhavan in Delhi, during which Rajesh Khanna was present to assist him. But when the by-election results came in, he defeated the BJP candidate Shatrughan Sinha by more than 27 thousand votes. Rajesh Khanna won this by-election but at the cost of friendship.
