The left-handed batsman broke Chris Gayle’s record for the most runs for the team at the Brian Lara Stadium in Taroba, Trinidad on Thursday, June 13. West Indies beat New Zealand by 13 runs and qualified for Super-8. The New Zealand team has been eliminated from the tournament.
Former West Indies explosive batsman Chris Gayle has scored 1899 runs in 79 matches. His average during this period was 27.92 and the strike rate was 137.50. He has scored 14 fifties and two centuries in the shortest format of the game. Currently he is one of the ambassadors of the World Cup along with Yuvraj Singh, Usain Bolt and Yuvraj Singh. Puran scored 17 runs in 12 balls with the help of three fours. Puran has scored 1914 runs at an average of 25.52 in 91 T20 Internationals. Puran is close to completing 2000 runs in T20 Internationals. He will be the first batsman to touch this figure.
