Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem says he has no rivalry with Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and always has room to learn from a top athlete like the Indian. Both Chopra and Nadeem have qualified for next year’s Paris Olympics and the men’s javelin final at the World Championships on Sunday.
Chopra qualified for the World Championship final with a career-best throw of 88.77m, while Nadeem threw a season’s best of 86.79m here in Budapest on Friday.
Neeraj Chopra’s clash with Pakistan’s Nadeem in the final will look to turn silver into gold.
After making it to the final, Nadeem told the media, “I am not competing with anyone. I always try to compete with myself and improve my performance. No enmity with Neeraj. You can always learn from top athletes.
Nadeem is returning to competition after nearly a year recovering from an elbow injury. He said he has a lot of respect for Chopra.
“I wish him well and my job is to be the best for my country,” he added.
Chopra withdrew from the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year due to a back injury where Nadeem won gold with a throw of 90.18m. This was Pakistan’s first medal in a track and field event in 56 years.
