North Korea has launched a nuclear-armed submarine to counter the US Navy

North Korea claimed on Friday that it had built what it believed to be a nuclear attack submarine (tactical nuclear attack submarine), which it had been working on for years. North Korean President Kim Jong Un has hailed the move as crucial to his efforts to build a nuclear-capable navy, which he claims he is developing to counter the US and its Asian allies.

During the submarine’s launching ceremony on Wednesday and its inspection on Thursday, Kim expressed satisfaction that the country has acquired its own nuclear-capable submarines to counter America’s advanced naval weapons, KCNA reported. The US deployed a nuclear-capable ballistic missile submarine to South Korea in July for the first time since the 1980s.

Building nuclear capable army ‘urgent’: Kim
Kim said the country is also working on nuclear-powered submarines and plans to update its existing submarines and ships to enable them to use nuclear weapons. He termed the creation of a nuclear capable army as ‘urgent’.
