Raja Krishnamurthy, an influential Indian-origin MP in America, told people in the community that the time had come for them to run for every elected position and vote every time. He also underlined the importance of participation in the civic affairs of the country. Addressing Indian Americans gathered here for the annual function of the Democratic think-tank ‘Indian American Impact’, Krishnamurthy said, “We have to vote. Will everyone here vote in the next election? Because we can talk about politics all day long. But being a part of politics is different. Remember, politics is not just a noun but a verb. We have to participate in politics this year.

“Another thing is that we have to work for the political interest rather than our own,” said the congressman, who represents Chicago in the House of Representatives. We have to support our local temples. We have to support local mosques. We need to support our local non-profit organizations. I hope you do.
Krishnamurthy said, “My third and final point is that it’s time to run for office at every level. At the same event, Vice President Kamala Harris had said a day earlier that Indian Americans are grossly underrepresented in elected office in America.
Krishnamurthy praised the role of think tank ‘Indian American Impact’ in organizing the community. “IMPACT (think tank) is making a huge difference, so we can bring more people at all levels,” he said.
