R. Ashwin: Indian spinner R Ashwin is under tension in this IPL due to the bowlers hitting him. At an event on Saturday, Ashwin said that a dangerous type of batting is developing. There is tremendous power hitting going on. Because of this the size of the cricket stadium has become completely irrelevant. He said that the game has started to become one-sided due to this constant occurrence. Now the rules must be changed. Ashwin’s comments came in the context of the big scores scored by teams in this year’s IPL.
Fields are getting smaller
It may be noted that Sunrisers Hyderabad made the highest score in this league twice (277 and 287) in the current season. After the introduction of the impact player rule, teams have crossed the 250-run mark several times in the current IPL season. Ashwin said that the stadiums built some time ago are not relevant today. The bats that were used then are no longer used in street cricket. The boundary has already been reduced by 10 yards due to sponsors’ use of LED boards. Ashwin said this during a promotional event for his IPL team Rajasthan Royals.
Bowlers have to find the answers
Ashwin believes that if this trend continues, the game will become one-sided in the future. Expressing his views directly, Ashwin said that the game in today’s era is very much tilted towards the batsman. It’s like making someone happy by upsetting someone. Bowlers need mental boost. Ashwin, however, hoped that even in these circumstances, a good bowler would leave his mark and continue to prove himself with his new skills. Ashwin said that’s when the balance of the game changes and you have to find answers. This is a good opportunity to stand out.
