India and America are at the top two positions in the group after winning two matches each. Pakistan team is at number three. The top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam said after defeating Canada, ‘We needed this win. We started well in bowling. Net run rate was also on our mind when we were batting but the bad pitch made it difficult. In the match played on Tuesday, Pakistan restricted Canada to 106 runs. After this the match was won in the 18th over.
Pakistan needed to achieve this target in 19.1 overs to make their net run rate positive. Apart from this, winning in 13.5 overs was necessary to have a better net run rate than America (0.626). Pakistan won in 17.3 overs. Because of this, his net run rate improved from -0.150 to 0.191, but not better than America’s.
If Pakistan wins its last match in the Super-8 and USA loses both of its matches, the two teams will be tied on 4 points each. After this, the team with the best net run rate will go to Super-8. This is the reason why Babar Azam is not completely happy after Pakistan’s win. They know that Pakistan will not only have to win their last match, but also have to win by a big margin.
