Pakistan’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said on Friday that the country has not made any formal request to join BRICS. According to a press release from Pakistan’s foreign ministry, a foreign ministry spokesperson said the country will review recent developments and decide on its future with BRICS. Regarding India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission, Pakistan said that ISRO scientists deserve praise for this.

New countries joining BRICS
The BRICS group of countries on Thursday decided to admit six new members – Argentina, Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The new membership will be effective from January 1, 2024. The leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) supported the group’s expansion, the first such expansion since 2010 when South Africa was included in the group.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been invited to join BRICS as part of the first phase of expansion. With this expansion, six of the world’s nine largest oil producers are now part of BRICS. Ramaphosa made the announcement while releasing the Johannesburg Declaration of the 15th BRICS Summit.
