Pakistan’s former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, close to Imran Khan, has been arrested

Khan has long claimed he has evidence of a “foreign conspiracy” that led to his ouster as prime minister in April last year.

Sharing the post on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), PTI said, “Party Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been illegally arrested again.”

Qureshi was holding the post of foreign minister when the case of confidential diplomatic documents came to light.

The alleged ‘cipher’ (secret diplomatic cable) details meetings between US State Department officials, including a conversation last year between US Assistant Secretary of State for South and West Asian Affairs Donald Lu and Pakistani Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan.

Confirming Qureshi’s arrest, PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub said their leader was arrested as soon as he reached home after the press conference.

“It was expected that the anarchic rule would end with the exit of the fascist PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement), but it seems that the caretaker government wants to break the record of the previous fascist government,” Ayub said.

Qureshi earlier denied reports of a rift in the party and demanded early elections. He told reporters that he had recently met ambassadors from other countries.

Qureshi was also arrested on May 11 and June 6.
