Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Italy on Thursday evening to attend the G-7 Summit. Leaders of many countries have arrived for this meeting organized in Italy. Meanwhile, PM Modi will also hold a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Modi’s participation in the G-7 summit will provide an opportunity to discuss the outcomes of the G-20 summit held under the chairmanship of India last year. The meeting is being held from June 13 to 15 at the luxury resort of Borgo Agnazia in the Apulia region of Italy.

US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will sign a bilateral security agreement between the US and Ukraine during the G7 summit in Italy on Thursday. Biden’s national security adviser, Jack Sullivan, announced the deal before leaving for Italy on Wednesday. Italy is hosting a two-day summit of the G7.
Fifteen countries, including Britain, France and Germany, have signed similar security agreements with Ukraine. Sullivan said the Biden administration’s talks with Kiev have now been finalized. He did not specify what the agreement contained, but said it was a “framework” for how the two countries would work together.
What is G7?
The G7 includes the US, Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Canada and Japan. It is currently chaired by Italy. The G7 countries currently represent about 45% of global GDP and more than 10% of the world’s population. The G-7, formerly known as the G-8, also included Russia. However, Russia’s membership ended after Russia annexed Crimea.

Italian Prime Minister has invited PM Modi for a meeting
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in this meeting. Prime Minister Modi said in a post on ‘X’ that he congratulated Maloney and the people of Italy on the 79th anniversary of Italy’s Liberation Day. Modi said, “Thank you for inviting me to the G7 summit in June. Discussed taking forward the results of the G20 held in India to the G7. Reiterated the commitment to deepen strategic partnership between the two countries.
