New Delhi: An arrest warrant was issued against Russian President Vladimir Putin after waging war against Ukraine. He is to leave Russia for the first time since the arrest warrant was issued. However, he is not coming to India to attend the G20 summit. After issuing the arrest warrant, Putin has agreed to make his first foreign trip to China in October.

Bloomberg reports that Putin is set to travel to China for the Belt and Road Forum later this year. Bloomberg quoted a source on condition of anonymity as saying that the Kremlin is preparing for Putin’s visit to China after the Russian president accepted Chinese President Xi Jinping’s invitation to attend the summit.

Putin did not cross the Russian border after the warrant
Let it be known that Putin did not cross the Russian international borders after the warrant was announced by the Hague International Court. Recently, Putin also did not attend the BRICS summit in South Africa, as the local government in Copenhagen said it would comply with an ICC order to arrest him as a signatory to the international court.

At the same time, Putin has also distanced himself from the upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi in September, although India is not a signatory to the ICC. Since the war began in February 2022, Putin has only traveled to neighboring former Soviet Union countries and Iran. Putin made his presence felt in China in February 2022 before launching a military offensive in Kiev. Xi Jinping, on the other hand, visited Moscow in March this year, his first foreign trip after assuming office for a record third term as China’s president.

The source also told Bloomberg that Putin is only willing to visit countries where his safety is fully guaranteed, and China is one of those places. Significantly, in March, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Putin ‘with regard to the situation in Ukraine’.
