Why Rahul Gandhi had to leave the seat?
Generally, under the Constitution, a person cannot be a member of Parliament or both Houses of Parliament and State Legislature simultaneously. No MP can represent more than one seat in the House. Under Article 101 (1) of the Constitution and Article 68 (1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, if a representative wins an election from two seats, he must vacate one seat within 14 days of the announcement of the election. result. Failure to do so will automatically vacate both his seats. Hence Rahul Gandhi had to give up one seat.
