But due to some reasons Rani could not be a part of this film and the film went to Alia.

When talks with Rani Mukherjee did not work out, the second offer of the film was also given to desi girl Priyanka Chopra. Priyanka also worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the blockbuster Bajirao Mastani. But the talk with Priyanka could not be finalized for Gangubai Kathiawadi. Because those days Priyanka Chopra was busy with her Hollywood project. After this Sanjay Leela Bhansali approached Alia Bhatt for Gangubai Kathiawadi and Alia Bhatt agreed for the film. The film proved to be a blockbuster.
