AFG vs SA T20 WC 2024: Rashid Khan reprimanded by ICC

ICC takes action on Rashid Khan ahead of AFG vs SA semi-final: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially reprimanded Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan for throwing his bat on the ground in frustration after denying runs to his teammates Karib Janat during the T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh. The incident happened in the last over of Afghanistan’s innings, when Rashid lost his temper after Janat refused to take another run.

ICC said in a press note

“Rashid was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Staff by improperly or dangerously placing the ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) on or near a player during an international match.” Further, one demerit point has been added to Rashid’s disciplinary record, his first offense in 24 months,” it said.

Rashid accepted the ban proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Panel of ICC Match Referees.
