Delhi Capitals assistant coach Praveen Amre has explained the reason behind opener Prithvi Shaw’s absence from most of the matches. He has said that if a player is not in form then he cannot retain his place in the playing eleven. Prithvi Shaw has scored 198 runs at a strike rate of 163 in eight matches in IPL 2024. Shaw’s performances improved from last season but he could not reach his best form and the team had to look at other options.

Opener Prithvi Shaw last played for India in 2021, when he was part of the white-ball series against Sri Lanka. However, in the past few years, Shaw has been in the news more for his off-field activities rather than his on-field activities. Just last month, a Mumbai court directed the police to investigate allegations of molestation leveled against Shaw last year.

Praveen Amre told the press conference, “He was our retained player and as you can see, he was on the bench for the last five matches. But this is IPL. If you are not in form, you cannot make a position (maintain your position). Finally, there is so much pressure on the team that every game is important and we have to win and we did that. Without playing without him, we won the game. And whoever got the opportunity, I think Abhishek grabbed the opportunity with both hands.” Delhi Capitals’ performance in IPL 2024 has been mixed. The team has won seven and lost seven out of 14 matches.
