In the league round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan lost to America in the Super Over. This is considered to be the biggest upset in the history of T20 World Cup. A loss in this match ended Pakistan’s journey in the league round and India and America qualified for the Super-8 from Group-A. Pakistani-American fast bowler Ali Khan has told some important things about the match against Pakistan. He said how America created a maze against Pakistan ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. Ali Khan said that Pakistan is a team that either destroys the opposing team or collapses itself and that day Pakistan team collapsed itself.
Ali Khan said all these things during a conversation with former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif on Times of Karachi. Rashid Latif said that the whole of Pakistan is upset with you, to which Ali Khan replied, ‘The whole of Pakistan would have been more upset with me if I had bowled a super over, but they didn’t give me the ball. Super over, but it was good too, otherwise I would have stopped coming to Pakistan. The Pakistan match was a very emotional match, they are a very big team, we have not played such a big team and straight T20. World Cup I used to come down to play.

Ali Khan continued, ‘Earlier we were playing with Canada, but we are playing with them. But the main match was against Pakistan. They had big players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Azam… Shaheen Afridi… just heard the name… but before the T20 World Cup we had a series against Bangladesh, where we won 2-1, I That seems to have given the team a lot of confidence.

‘Pak batsmen had no intention’
Ali Khan said, ‘T20 World Cup 2024 was our match, first with Canada, then with Pakistan and then with India and Ireland… We thought we have to beat Canada and in the second match we have to beat Ireland and then India and Pakistan. There were matches left in between… we had to choose which team we could register a win against, so it was Pakistan. So when we went into that match, we went in with this intention from the first ball. The partnership between Shadab Khan and Babar Azam, Pakistan was just ahead of us at one stage, after that I think we were dominating the entire match. I think our belief was much higher than theirs. They took us lightly that day, their batsmen had zero intent, they played very slowly.
