Seeing Deepika Padukone in Kalki reminded Internet users of Game of Thrones, drawing comparisons with the character.

New Delhi:

Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in lead roles was released on 27 June. The film was decoded on the internet and compared to Hollywood but one scene impressed many people. In a crucial moment of the film, Deepika’s pregnant character SUM-80 aka Sumati walks through the fire in her desperation to escape. While Indian mythology also has examples of women ‘walking through fire’ – sometimes literally, it seems similar to or inspired by Emilia Clarke’s character Daenerys Targaryen aka Khaleesi from Game of Thrones. This connection has surprised many people. In the episode Fire and Blood, Khaleesi goes into a fire with her dragon egg but comes out safely.

Comparison of fans

Fans even started comparing Kalki 2898 AD. After seeing her, she was also called Khaleesi. A fan has shared the poster of Deepika from the film

One shared a GIF of Khaleesi and wrote, “This scene came to my mind during Deepika’s interval part. Both are similar but different.”

“Deepika was really Daenerys Targaryen in the interval.” wrote one fan, hinting at things to come. “Khalesi Queen Deepika. IYKYK #Kalki,” wrote another fan. However, a user on X reminded people that walking on fire is nothing new for Deepika. He has done this in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmaavat. When his character commits suicide. Sharing a GIF from the film, he wrote, “Naag: You have to walk through fire. Deepika: I already did.”
