Shahid Afridi in T20 World Cup Semi-Final: ICC T20 World Cup 2024 ambassador Shahid Afridi recently picked his favorite teams to qualify for the semi-finals of the mega event. According to Shahid Afridi, this year India will reach the knockout matches along with Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand. The Pakistan legend has not picked defending champions England as favorites for the semi-finals. With this he hopes that Pakistan should play the final of T20 World Cup 2024.
Speaking to the ICC, Shahid Afridi said, “I think Pakistan should play the final. So apart from them, I want to go with Australia and India. Considering the conditions, my fourth team would be New Zealand.”
Among Shahid Afridi’s top four teams, all but New Zealand have won at least one title. In 2007, India became champions for the first time, with Team India defeating Pakistan in the final. In its next edition, Pakistan lifted the title, while Australia became champions in 2021.

Shahid Afridi was on Friday selected as the ambassador for the T20 World Cup 2024 by the ICC. Regarding this he said, “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is an event that is very close to my heart. From winning the trophy in 2009 as Player of the Tournament in the first edition, some of my favorite career highlights have come from competing on this platform.”

In 34 T20 World Cup matches, Shahid Afridi has scored 546 runs at an average of 18.82 and taken 39 wickets. He also took several four-wicket hauls. In 2009, Pakistan won the title by defeating Sri Lanka at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Afridi also won the player of the match award for his brilliant performance.
He further added, “The T20 World Cup has gone from strength to strength in recent years and I am thrilled to be a part of this edition, where we will see more teams, more matches and more drama than ever before. I am especially excited to watch the India vs Pakistan match on 9th June. “This is one of the great rivalries in sports and New York will be the perfect platform for this unforgettable showdown between two great teams.”
