India’s star all-rounder Shardul Thakur has undergone foot surgery. He gave an update on his surgery on social media on Wednesday. However, it is likely that he will be away from competitive cricket for at least three months. Shardul has shared pictures of the operation. This is the second surgery on his leg. Before this, five years ago in 2019, he underwent leg surgery.

Star all-rounder Shardul Thakur shared a post-surgery picture on his Instagram page and captioned it, “The injury reoccurred during the tour of South Africa earlier this year.” However, he managed to make a brilliant comeback in the Ranji Trophy last season and helped Mumbai win their 42nd title.

He requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a longer break between matches to give the players enough time to recover and prepare. In IPL 2024, playing for Chennai Super Kings, he took five wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 9.75.

Shardul Thakur is BCCI’s grade C annual contract holder so his medical expenses were borne by the board. As far as his return is concerned, there has been no official statement but sources familiar with the matter believe that it will take around three months for him to return to training. There is a possibility that he could make a comeback before or shortly after the next domestic season.
