The Indian squad for Asia Cup 2023 has been announced. Many strong players have returned to the Indian ODI squad. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have returned from injury. Jasprit Bumrah, the famous Krishna has returned to the ODI setup after a long time. Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has described India’s Asia Cup team as strong. Ganguly also revealed the solution to Team India’s number four problem. He said that captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid have to continue to show faith in one player.
Former captain Ganguly told Star Sports, “This is a very strong team. Bumrah is back, making the team even stronger. Very good bowling attack – Shami, Bumrah, Siraj. You can’t get a better fast bowling attack than this. While in the spin department, Jadeja is a wrist spinner. A top batsman. India is a great team, they just have to play good and determined cricket during Asia Cup and 2023 World Cup.
On the issue of number four, Ganguly said that number 4 is just a number. Anyone can fit here. Even when I was playing, no one came at number three or number four as an opener. You know I started as a middle-order batsman in ODI cricket and then opened because Sachin asked me to do so as captain at that time. I think it was the same with Sachin. Sachin batted at number 6 until his captain asked him to open and became a world class player.
Ganguly further said that anyone can play at number 4. There is Virat Kohli who can bat at number four, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. India has a lot of talent. I keep hearing we don’t have this, we don’t have that but I believe we have so much more, it’s a problem you can’t fix.
