Sri Lanka squad announced for T20 World Cup 2024, Vanindu Hasaranga named team captain

The Sri Lanka squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has been announced. All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been made the captain of the team. Vanindu Hasaranga has been leading the team for the last several matches as all-rounder Dasun Shanaka stepped down as captain. Wanindu Hasaranga is going to get the captaincy group, which will prove beneficial for him. Apart from former captain Dasun Shanaka, the team includes ODI captain Kusal Mendis and Test captain Dhananjay de Silva.

The Sri Lankan team has been placed in Group D in the T20 World Cup. The Sri Lankan team will face teams from South Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal and the Netherlands in the group stage. The team will start their campaign from June 3. The first match is against former champions South Africa. This match will be played in the same stadium in which India and Pakistan are going to face each other. This match will be nothing short of a litmus test for Vanindu Hasaranga, as he will be seen captaining an ICC tournament for the first time.
