Stock market today: Stock markets continue to fall, Sensex falls over 250 points, Nifty nears 22,200

Stock Market Updates: Today is the third consecutive session when the stock market is witnessing decline.

Today i.e. on 9th May, the trading session in the stock market has once again started on the red mark. The benchmark equity index fell in early trade on Thursday amid heavy withdrawals and selling in Reliance Industries and Tata Consultancy Services while the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty opened at 22,224.80. In this way, the stock market is witnessing a decline in the third session in a row today.

The Sensex fell over 250 points to 73,167 in early trade. Nifty also saw weakness and was trading at 22,210.

Among Sensex-listed stocks, Larsen & Toubro fell more than 3 percent after the March quarter results. At the same time, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, ITC, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries were among the losers, while Mahindra & Mahindra, Titan, Maruti and Tata Motors were among the top gainers.

Today the sectoral indices have seen some gains and some declines. Nifty Auto (+2.2%) and Nifty Consumer Durables (+0.6%) were up, while Nifty PSU Bank was trading up 0.5%. On the other hand, the Nifty FMCG, Healthcare, Pharma and Oil & Gas indices declined by 0.8%.

The 30-share Sensex closed down 45.46 points or 0.06 percent at 73,466.39 points yesterday. While the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange remained stable at 22,302.50 points.

According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were sellers in the capital market on Wednesday and bought Rs. 6,669.10 crore worth of shares were sold.
