The eighth match of the T20 World Cup 2024 is being played between India and Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Indian captain Rohit Sharma has won the toss and decided to bowl first against Ireland. However, after the announcement of India’s playing XI, everyone from fans to cricket experts (Sunil Gavaskar) were shocked not to see the name of in-form Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep was in great form in the recently concluded IPL 2024 and that’s why he was the first choice.
Kuldeep Yadav took 16 wickets in 11 matches playing for Delhi Capitals. Kuldeep Yadav got a chance to play in the only practice match against Bangladesh before the T20 World Cup. However, the team management decided to opt for a fast bowling attack in the form of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh, while keeping Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja as the two spinners in the playing eleven.
“I am surprised by the decision,” Sunil Gavaskar said during the toss. Kuldeep did very well in the IPL.” Many fans also agreed with Gavaskar’s statement. Cricket fans have raised questions on social media about Kuldeep not getting a chance.
India last won the ICC trophy in 2013. After that, the Indian team reached the final of the 50-over World Cup in 2023 and the semi-finals in 2015 and 2019. Reached the finals of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023. In the T20 World Cup, they reached the final in 2014, semi-finals in 2016 and 2022 but did not win the trophy.
