Usually when Team India’s fielding coach T Dileep presents the Best Fielder of the Match medal after the match, he always names two-four players who fielded well in the match. The medal is awarded to one of the best fielders among them, but there was no contender when Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the medal in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. In a way, he won this medal unopposed, because everyone knows how important that catch by David Miller was. Had that catch not been taken, the outcome of the match could have been anything. Suryakumar Yadav BCCI Secretary Jai Shah presented him with the medal and hugged him.
Suryakumar Yadav didn’t say much after winning the medal, because sometimes emotions speak volumes. Such was the case in this case too, as everyone walked around with tears of joy after winning the title. Suryakumar Yadav Neither did he talk much about it, nor did the fielding coach talk much about fielding. He praised the efforts of the entire team and told Jai Shah that our best fielder today is Suryakumar Yadav. Jai Shah presented the medal to Surya and Surya kissed his World Cup winner’s medal and fielding medal.
