T20 World Cup: Former champions’ fortunes washed away in rain, Super-8 dream unfulfilled, Nepal gain

New Delhi. The Sri Lankan team, which entered the T20 World Cup with high expectations on Wednesday, was washed away by rain. His competition was with Nepal and it was very important to be in the Super-8 race. Having lost their first match against South Africa, Sri Lanka badly needed a win against Nepal. After the match was canceled due to rain, his Super-8 future is now mired in an equation of ifs and buts.

Sri Lanka team is in Group of Death (D) of T20 World Cup. In addition to Sri Lanka, the group includes teams from South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal. Sri Lankan team has already lost against South Africa. They are now fifth in the points table after sharing points with Nepal. South Africa, Bangladesh and Netherlands occupy the top three positions with one match each.

Team Nepal is the newest and least experienced team in the group. Sri Lanka will be hoping that they can get two points by defeating Nepal. But the rain spoiled his wishes. On the other hand, Nepal has opened its account in the group and is above Sri Lanka in the points table.
