Acclaimed Hollywood star Cate Blanchett’s latest comedy ‘Rumour’ received a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. Throughout the screening, the audience kept laughing at the film. Although some auditoriums emptied as the credits rolled, most of the audience waited quietly to pay their respects to the film’s stars. It is being said that the audience kept clapping for this film for almost 4 minutes. All three directors, Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson, gave speeches together after a standing ovation and thanked the audience. He quoted his film and said, “It is better to burn than to die.”

The ‘rumor’ is about a group of world leaders who meet at the G7. It is a political and economic meeting between Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and the US but they get lost in the jungle when trying to write a joint statement. The dark comedy stars Alicia Vikander, Charles Dance, Roy Dupuis, Denise Manoche, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Rolando Ravello, Takehiro Hira and Zlatko Buric.
