The government took a big decision regarding onion, imposed 40% export duty

The government has imposed 40 percent export duty on onion on Friday. The government has taken this decision to prevent onion shortage in the country. Let us tell you that on Friday, the government had decided to relax the import duty of indigenous gram until March 31, 2025.

Besides, duty exemption on import of yellow peas has also been extended through ‘Bill of Entry’ issued on or before October 31, 2024.

A ‘Bill of Entry’ is a legal document that is filed with importers or customs clearance agents on or before the arrival of imported goods. The Finance Ministry has said in a notification that all these changes will be effective from May 4.

These countries have got special concessions

At present there is a ban on onion export. However, the government allows exports to friendly countries of India. It has allowed certain quantity of onions to be exported to UAE and Bangladesh. In August last year, India imposed 40 per cent export duty on onion till December 31, 2023.
