The US announced $1.5 billion in aid to Ukraine at the Switzerland Peace Summit

New Delhi:

The Ukraine war will be discussed in detail at an international conference starting Saturday in Switzerland. Prime Ministers and other high-level representatives of around 100 countries and international organizations are participating in this conference.
They will discuss a range of issues, including grain exports from Ukraine, security of the Russian-held Zaporizhia nuclear power plant and prisoner exchanges.

The meeting is being held at the initiative of Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky, and many leaders are participating in it directly after the G7 meeting in Italy.

US Vice President Kamala Harris pledged America’s unwavering support for Ukraine and announced more than $1.5 billion in aid for the country’s energy sector and its humanitarian situation as a result of Russia’s 27-month invasion.
Russia currently controls about a fifth of Ukraine. This includes the Crimea peninsula, which it took under its control in 2014.

The purpose of this Swiss conference is to gain international support for Ukraine. The special thing is that the countries that are friends with Russia are also involved in this conference.

About half of the countries participating in the meeting, held in a luxury hotel above Lake Lucerne, are from Europe, while the other half are from the rest of the world.

Switzerland hopes to host another such conference this year and include Moscow. Russia started the war in February 2022 by attacking Ukraine.

Hundreds of soldiers have been killed or injured in this war, along with civilian casualties. Russian shelling has also destroyed Ukraine’s infrastructure.
