Sonali Bendre said that she is ready to quit the film industry if she does not perform well in Mani Ratnam’s 1995 film Bombay song Humma Humma. At that time he had done only five films and choreographers were taking him to classes for his dance moves. Her breakthrough came when she danced to the hit song Humma Humma with Prabhu Deva’s brother Raju Sundaram.

She said that back then people believed that if you can’t dance, you can’t be a lead heroine. Sonali said that she wanted to dance because the song was choreographed by popular choreographer Prabhu Deva. Speaking to PTI, Sonali said, “I am not a trained dancer. When I came into films, I was scolded by dance directors for my dance. ‘I have become a big heroine, I don’t know how to dance’. I mean if you dance Can’t, you can’t be a heroine, I was going through all this, so I started training in ‘Bollywood dancing’ before and after shooting.

The actress recently revealed that she faced body shaming in the early stages of her career. Talking to Hotterfly, she said, “When I came into the industry, heroines were not that thin. Every producer was trying to make me fat. The producers were telling me to eat, eat, be very thin. They wanted curves. That was the time. Curvy women were considered beautiful and I had straight black hair and was thin.”

Sonali Bendre acted in films like Diljal (1996), Major Saab (1998), Sarfarosh (1999) and Hum Saath Saath Hai (1999). She won the Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000). He also acted in Tamil films such as Kadlar Dhinam (1999) and the Telugu film Murari (2001).
