Uddhav Thackeray said, why ‘Bharat’ alliance does not need a convener

He said, “There was a suggestion that we should take people’s opinion on the ‘logo’, as this fight is in the interest of the people. We will seek their suggestions within a certain time limit, so that we can come up with a better logo.

He said, “There is no confusion among people. We had two or three ‘logos’ ready, but the unveiling was put on hold because everyone liked the suggestion that we go to the public. Public participation will be with us from day one.

Regarding the post of coordinator of ‘Bharat’, Thackeray said that each state would have a coordination committee, which would be an “easy way forward”.

“We have decided to ensure a head-to-head fight wherever possible against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA),” he said. The Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) has joined the alliance and talks are ongoing with the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, while coordination committees in other states will hold similar discussions (to bring more parties on board).

He said these committees will report to the presidents of the respective coalition partners. He was speaking to reporters after interacting with office bearers of trade unions affiliated to his party. Thackeray said that the two-day discussion of various opposition forces was successful. He said that the date of the next meeting of the opposition alliance ‘Bharat’ was not announced after the debate, as it was not needed and all the leaders would now go straight to the people.

He said that a joint rally may be organized soon, while meetings will be organized in each state. He said it was wrong to hold a special session of Parliament during Ganpati festival and asked if this government (at the Centre) was “anti-Hindu”.

Taking a clear target at the ruling government, he said, “Lord Ganesha is called Vighnaharta (remover of obstacles). We hope that with his arrival, the country’s problems will end.” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi announced on Thursday that the Union government has convened a five-day special session of Parliament from September 18 to 22.
