The first and biggest upset of the T20 World Cup 2024 happened when the hosts USA defeated last time finalists Pakistan. Right from the start of the match, the American team seemed to be dominating Pakistan. First the host team scored 159 runs to tie the match and then defeated Pakistan in the super over. The US set Pakistan a target of 19 runs to win in the Super Over, against which the Men in Green managed to score just 13 runs. This is Pakistan’s worst start to the tournament. Babar Azam’s team’s next match is against India on June 9. This defeat against America must have taken a toll on their morale.
Let’s take a look at Pakistan vs US Super Over-
Mohammad Amir bowled the Super Over for Pakistan, during which he bowled 9 balls instead of 6, costing him a total of 18 runs.
USS Innings-
first ball- Aaron Jones got the Super Over off to a flying start by hitting Mohammad Amir’s first ball for a four. Amir bowled the ball beyond the reach of Jones, but the American still managed to reach the ball and scored four runs.
second ball- Aamir came back on the second ball and tried a yorker, though he was not successful, but Aaron Jones also managed to score two runs on this ball.
Third ball- Amir tried the yorker again and this time it was successful, but he couldn’t stop Jones from scoring runs.
4th ball- Amir, who went for the yorker for the third time, deviated from the direction and bowled a wide ball on the leg side. By the time the wicket keeper Mohammad Rizwan could catch the ball, Harmeet had scored one run.
4th ball- Amir tries the yorker again and this time he bowls a full toss. Jones couldn’t capitalize and US got a run.
5th ball- On the fifth ball, Amir lost his direction again and gave an extra run with a wide ball. Harmeet again reached the non-striker’s end without playing the ball.
Fifth Ball- Amir bowls a good ball this time, but Jones again gets two runs. Meanwhile, Aamir was seen very angry in the field.

Sixth Ball- Amir then went down the leg and bowled a wide ball. Jones again ran for a run and a bad throw by Mohammad Rizwan gave America another run. USA got a total of 3 runs on this ball.
Sixth Ball- Amir also tried a yorker off the last ball, on which Jones got a run. He was run out trying to take another run.
Pakistan had a target of 19 runs to win. Iftikhar Ahmed and Fakhar Zaman came into the field to chase this score. While Saurabh Netrawalkar took the responsibility of bowling from the US side.
Pakistan’s claim-
first ball- Saurabh bowled the first ball outside off stump, Iftikhar dismissed it as wide, but he had already changed his position at the crease which led the umpire to declare it a legal ball.
second ball- This time Iftikhan hits Saurabh’s length ball hard and scores four runs towards deep mid-wicket. Pakistan now needed 15 runs from 4 balls.
3rd ball- While trying to bowl a wide yorker, Saurabh bowled the ball wide. Pakistan got an extra run on this ball in the form of a wide.

3rd ball- This time Saurabh tried a yorker in the wicket, but it turned out to be a full toss. However, Iftikhar could not capitalize on this and Milind took a brilliant catch at long off. It was not a catch but a match catch for USA.
4th ball- After Iftikhar’s dismissal, Saurabh again tried to bowl a wide yorker to Shadab Khan, who came in to bat, but this time too he failed. Pakistan got another extra run in the form of a wide.
4th ball- Saurabh did not deviate from his yorker strategy, but luck was not with him this time. Shadab went for a sweep shot and the ball hit the leg and crossed the boundary line. Pakistan got four runs on this ball. Now the Man in Green needed 9 runs from two balls.
5th ball- This time too Saurabh bowled a full ball on which Shadab shot towards long on and got two runs.
Pakistan needed 7 runs off the last ball. A six would have led to another super over and that was what Pakistan needed.
Sixth Ball- Saurabh also tried to bowl a wide yorker on the last ball and this time he was successful. Shadab could not hit a big shot on this ball and got only one run. USA won the match by 5 runs in the super over.
