India’s star batsman Virat Kohli received the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award on Saturday. Kohli was nominated for the award along with Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami and New Zealander Daryl Mitchell, and Virat Kohli won it. He received the award before the practice match against Bangladesh on Saturday. Apart from this, he was also selected for the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2023.
India’s veteran batsman Virat Kohli arrived on Friday, five days after other members of the team arrived for the T20 World Cup. Kohli will take the field on Friday. India will play their first T20 World Cup match against Ireland on June 5. With the award, Kohli became the first player in the history of the game to win the prestigious award three times, surpassing MS Dhoni and AB de Villiers, who won it twice. The ICC shared a video of the former Indian captain in a pre-tournament photoshoot with the trophy and ODI Team of the Year cap.
The 35-year-old took his illustrious career to new heights in 2023. In 27 ODIs, he scored 1,377 runs in 24 innings at an average of 72.47 and a strike rate of 99.13, including six centuries and eight fifties. His best score was an unbeaten 166. After this, in last year’s ODI World Cup at home, Virat scored 765 runs at an average of 95.62 in 11 matches, including three centuries, six fifties and a best score of 117.
Virat Kohli has joined the team. However, after a long flight of 16 hours, he decided to rest and did not play in the India vs Bangladesh practice match. Before Kohli, the Indian team reached here in two squads on May 25 and 28.
