Virat created history in the first semi-final of the World Cup against New Zealand. Kohli scored his 50th ODI international century at the Wankhede Stadium. Virat is the only player in the world to have scored a half-century in One Day Internationals. Earlier, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar scored 49 centuries in ODIs. Virat has now surpassed Sachin. While Sachin took a long year to reach from 48 to 49 ODI centuries, Virat Kohli took just 10 days to reach from 49 to 50 centuries.
Virat played an innings of 117 runs against New Zealand (IND vs NZ) in 113 balls with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes. He scored the 49th century of his ODI career 10 days ago in this World Cup. Virat played an unbeaten innings of 101 against South Africa on 5 November 2023. The veteran right-handed batsman created a world record by scoring his 50th century on 15 November 2023.
Sachin scored his 49th century in 2012
Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar scored his 48th ODI century against South Africa on 12 March in the 2011 World Cup. Sachin scored his 49th ODI century on 16 March 2012 against Bangladesh. Thus, Master Blaster took more than 365 days to reach the 48th to 49th century. Sachin has said in several interviews that he did not know that this was his 100th century in international cricket. The master blaster said that when people started talking about my 100 century in international cricket, the thought started coming somewhere in my mind. Perhaps that’s why it took him so long to score his 49th century.
