President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday appointed Bhartrihari Mahtab, BJP MP from Cuttack, Odisha, as the pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha under Article 95 (1) of the Constitution.   1. A six-time MP from the Cuttack Lok Sabha constituency, Mehtab resigned from the primary membership of the BJD on March 22. He alleged that he did not get enough opportunity to work independently in the BJD. Since then there were speculations about his joining the BJP.
